The Internet Goes Awry Over Casting News Of Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Frankenstein’

Although not guaranteed, Deadline reports that Oscar Isaac (Moon Knight), Mia Goth (Pearland Andrew Garfield (Comment, Thika Boom!) are in early talks to star Academy Award-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro for the action version Frankenstein for Netflix.

Del Toro, who recently received his third Oscar for his stop-motion animation Pinocchio, is set to write and direct the film. While insiders tell Deadline that del Toro has met with all three actors to talk to them about the project, there are no official offers on the table, and del Toro is still working on the screenplay.

In an interview with NPR last year, del Toro talked about how fascinated he was as a child when he first saw the 1931 film, Frankenstein, starring Boris Karloff. “This border crossing monster, this mess seems to embody everything I thought was ‘wrong’ with me, in a good way,” he said. “It was as if I had been found by a holy saint.”

Del Toro has always talked about doing his own version Frankenstein, but it looks like things may be moving forward if the casting news turns out to be true. On social media, users are intrigued by the possibility that Isaac, Garfield, and Goth, his Brazilian mother, are on board for this project.

“Perfect director and perfect cast for this plot (assuming Garfield plays Victor Frankenstein and Isaac plays the Creature),” said one Twitter user.

Some think that del Toro should rethink the story and make Isaac and Garfield star as a same-sex couple with Goth playing the monster.

Or maybe Goth like Dr. Frankenstein. “I really hope Mia Goth plays Dr. Frankenstein,” someone wrote on Twitter. “Or a monster. He will crush them both.”

Some don’t even know Goth but are there because they trust del Toro.

Some are ready to declare this the best movie yet.

Then there are those who remember what happened after that Water Condition he went out.

The bottom line is that we’re trying not to get too excited until this news is confirmed by Netflix, del Toro, or one of the cast.

Until then, we’ll be sitting and freaking out like everyone else is doing right now.
