Elon Musk’s satellite internet system, Starlink, has launched Starlink Roam, which allows users to access the internet anywhere in the world where service is available. The system is Starlink’s rebrand of RVs, built for travel.
According to SpaceX it official Twitter account, account, Starlink Roam “offers a global roaming option for customers traveling to areas where connectivity has been unreliable or unavailable at all.” The plan is also called “unlimited high-speed, low-latency internet on an on-demand basis around the world” on the service’s official website.
As highlighted by the private space company, customers wishing to access Starlink Roam are required to pay a one-time fee of $599 for portable hardware or $2,500 for mobile hardware. Customers can choose between regional roaming or global roaming, available for $200 per month.
It should be noted that opting in to Starlink Roam does not provide users with a satellite internet connection in the moving vehicle. For such service, customers are still required to purchase the company’s $2,500 Flat High Performance terminal designed specifically for moving vehicles.
Starlink has come a long way since it was offered to consumers around the world. Back in December, SpaceX confirmed that Starlink had reached a milestone of over 1,000,000 active subscribers. This number is only poised to grow as SpaceX continues to launch more Starlink satellites into orbit and as the service expands to more locations around the world.
