The Outwaters debuted in the US last month. In short, “four travelers experience a thought-provoking journey through terror while camping in a remote stretch of the Mojave Desert.” The trailer itself is heart-pounding enough, and one viewer’s experience saw the life-saving high heart rate alert on his Apple Watch go off during the film.
“I’d say the night was pretty eventful! Robbie Banfitch, you’re amazing, funny, and this re-watch of The Outwaters has reinforced my opinion that I think this has one of the most horrific and traumatizing sequences, I’ve ever experienced in a found footage horror film,” said Twitter user Joseph. In Joseph’s tweet, he shared a photo of his Apple Watch’s high heart rate warning after his heart rate spiked around 120 BPM while they were enjoying the movie. “I actually got two of them throughout the film,” he said, describing the film as “not even just a descent into madness, but a complete assault on the senses … much like the ax to the head.”
“Mysterious sounds haunt them, and when a menacing force descends, their terrifying journey into soul-crushing darkness begins,” reads the film’s synopsis. Other experiences collected by Independent (opens in new tab) include someone who claimed they had to leave the theater to throw up.
Apple’s High Heart Rate Alert is a life-saving Apple Watch feature that can detect signs of heart problems before they become a major problem. If The Outwaters isn’t your scene, the new season of Ted Lasso, which started this week, is much less likely to send your pulse through the roof or make your dinner reappear. The best show on Apple TV Plus can be streamed now with new episodes airing weekly.
