Red Wings Help GR With Timely Demotion; Kane and the Bruins?

Good organizations always have mutually beneficial relationships with their American Hockey League affiliates. The Detroit Red Wings recently called up Austin Czarnik from Grand Rapids because they had multiple injuries. They took Czarnik on their West Coast road trip.

By coincidence, the Griffins happened to be playing in San Diego. The Red Wings left Czarnik in California when they headed back to play Columbus.

He was in San Diego Friday to chip in a goal and an assist to help the Griffins down the Gulls 6-5. Former Red Wings player Taro Hirose netted his first professional hat trick to lead Grand Rapids. Red Wings prospect defensemen Jared McIsaac and Albert Johansson each chipped in two assists in the game. Detroit free agent signee Pontus Andreasson also scored.

List Czarnik, 29, as one of GM Steve Yzerman’s quality offseason additions. His skill strengthens the Griffins when he’s playing in Grand Rapids. Plus, he can contribute offensively when he’s called up. He has a goal in four games with Detroit.
