UConn women’s basketball associate head coach Chris Dailey was absent on the sideline to begin Sunday’s game against NC State.

Dailey appeared to pass out immediately following the singing of the national anthem. Dorka Juhasz and assistant coach Morgan Valley stood next to Dailey and held her up before slowly lowering her to the floor.

Medical staff immediately rushed over to Dailey as the UConn players rushed off the court. Most players were in tears as they ran to the locker room. NC State players also immediately exited the court.

Medical staff were able to help Dailey sit up and eventually move her to a stretcher. She was escorted off the court as the crowd applauded and she gave a wave back.

Game officials gave both teams an additional 10 minutes to warm up.

Dailey, 63, has been Geno Auriemma’s top assistant since the two coaches arrived at UConn in 1985. The New Jersey native is a member of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, the first assistant coach to be inducted.
