Guy Pearce says he has ‘no beef’ with Cate Blanchett

Guy Pearce has clarified that he actually had no “beef” with fellow Australian actor Cate Blanchett.

The LA Confidential star has quashed rumors the two didn’t get along after prank tweets from Pearce went viral.

In since-deleted tweets, Pearce retweeted an account urging people to watch a Blanchett photoshoot to which he replied “no thanks” and he also called the Oscar winner’s recent win at the Critics’ Choice Awards a “fascinating choice”.

Pearce has now clarified his stance on actor Tar, Writing“Don’t be scared. No beef at all. I was just being sarcastic. I love Miss CB. She’s amazing…..One of our best!”

Pearce previously supported Ana de Armas for her performance in Blonde to Pick Up Gongs this awards season, tweeting, “Please be Ana De Armas!!!! Amazing performance!”

There was speculation that there was a rift between the couple due to comments made by Pearce in 2008 about appearing on stage with Blanchett.

Pearce was asked if he would appear in a production of Poor Boy at the Sydney Theater Company and regarding Blanchett, said no “unless she wants to pay me what she earns”. If she does, it will be the most the (Sydney Theater Company) has ever paid an actor, I guarantee that.

Blanchett indeed landed an Oscar nomination yesterday for her performance as songwriter Lydia Tar. She was nominated alongside Michelle Yeoh, Michelle Williams, Ana de Armas and Andrea Riseborough.

This is Blanchett’s eighth Oscar nomination and she’s already won twice for Blue Jasmine and The Aviator. She was also nominated for her performances in Carol, Elizabeth, Notes on a Scandal, I’m Not There and Elizabeth: A Golden Age.

Blanchett previously won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama for her performance in Tar.
