T-Pain Covers Black Sabbath’s ‘Pig Wars,’ and It’s Cool: Stream

The rapper shows off some impressive performances on classic metal

It’s become so common for musicians to release covers, we almost don’t have them. However, when an artist departs from his genre to cover something completely unexpected, that’s cause for excitement.

Rapper T-Pain has released a new, self-titled cover album On Cups, via Nappy Boy Entertainment. The album features a unique mix of artists and song selection, from Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” to Sam Cookie’s “A Change Is Gonna Come” to “Stay With May” by Sam Smith.

T-Pain also included the Black Sabbath classic “War Pigs” on the set. If you’re cringing at the thought of T-Pain buying a regular metal, don’t. We think she does justice to the track, singing the song’s popular tunes with gusto and powerful vocal lines. Although known for his Auto-Tune vocals, the rapper has a strong singing voice.

“Each of these songs mean something to me and help me enjoy music at different points in my life,” T-Pain said in a press release. “I’m presenting this short album from the perspective of what I hear when I listen to each song. I can’t wait to share with the world what I’ve been working on for the past few years.”

Could a collaboration with GWAR be next on T-Pain’s agenda? The metal band recently announced Weight loss they would love to work with the rapper, but time will tell if this dream is a reality.
