10 Rock Albums with the Top 2 Songs

First the worst, second the best?

By Jacob Simmons /

Starting an album off on the right foot is important.

If the first song on a record isn’t good, people probably won’t stick around to hear the rest. However, sometimes a band can have a great opening song and it ends up overshadowing everything that follows.

We’ve featured this in our list of 10 Rock Albums That Peak With The First Song. But, it’s not just the opening that can put everything on an album to shame.

The accuracy of the second path is just as important as the success of the first path. It’s no good having a strong opening song if the song that comes immediately after is a load of tripe.

These bands understood that, but then again, they made the songs pretty cool.

We are not saying that the other songs on these albums are bad, nor are we saying that all the songs are bad. We mean, in terms of quality or popularity, these hit their stride only two songs in.

It’s a compliment, if you think about it.

10. Love To Die – Alice Cooper

Let’s clear up some confusion before we begin.

This story is about Alice Cooper the bandwhich was headlined by Alice Cooper the man until it broke up in 1974.

It’s weird, but just trying to keep going.

The group had their first taste of mainstream success with their third studio album Love It to Death in 1971. A large part of that success came from the lead single I’m Eighteen.

But you wouldn’t know it – it’s the second song on the album!

What are the odds?

You may know, the song is about that negative situation between a child and an adult. Alice (the man) sings about not knowing what she wants from life and being uncertain about the future.

The fact that he was 22 when this song came out was a bit of a spoiler.

My Eighteen paved the way for the monster hit School’s Out the following year and all the success the band and individual would have in the future.

The rest of the album has some good stuff on it, but nothing can match this youthful anthem.
