Rani Mukerji’s emotional drama Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway on the opening day, there were only a few buyers at the ticket offices. Based on the true story of an Indian couple whose children were taken from them by Norwegian welfare services in 2011, the film had a 9.66% occupancy rate in the Hindi market on its opening day. However, it found more buyers at the box office than Kapil Sharma’s Zwigato.

Industry tracker Sacnilk reports that Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway earned Rs 1.50 crore (advance estimates) on Friday. The number is significantly lower than Rani’s previous publication Bunty Aur Babli 2 (Rs 2.60 crore) which was released during the pandemic and ultimately failed at the box office. However, Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway may pick up steam over the weekend due to the good word of mouth received from critics and many Bollywood actors including Shah Rukh Khan.

Alaka Sahni of Indian Express found the film a bit more melodramatic than it should be. In his review of the film, he wrote: “Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway is a story that needed to be told to remind us of the power of a strong-willed mother. But it should have been told differently without succumbing to the tropes of commercial cinema.”

Meanwhile, Zwigato, co-published with Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway, saw less traffic. Directed by Nandita Das, Zwigato has Kapil Sharma essaying the role of a food delivery man. It focuses on the plight of food vendors and how they work around the clock to make ends meet. Sacnilk said that the film could earn 40 lakhs on Friday. Its usage rate in Hindi market was only 5.98%.

However, Zwigato’s lower collection is due to its limited release. Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh had shared on Twitter that ‘ZWIGATO’ INDIA SCREEN COUNT… Team #Zwigato has opted for targeted, focused release on 409 screens across #India… Smart move by makers and distributors for critically acclaimed film. ”

Apart from Zwigato and Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway, Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and Ranbir Kapoor’s Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar. Both films are getting decent popularity. Now in its seventh week, Pathaan earned Rs 31 lakh on Thursday. Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar earned Rs 3.37 crore on its tenth day (Friday) at the theatres.
