Drew Barrymore is giving a cheeky response after her ‘Music and Lyrics’ co-star and former duet partner Hugh Grant dismissed her singing skills.
In a video released to Wired on Monday, Grant, 62, reflected on working with Barrymore, 48, in the 2007 romantic comedy and admitted she’s not the best singer.
“Drew Barrymore was in that movie with me and I don’t think he would mind if I said his singing is scary,” the Brit said. “I’ve heard dogs bark better than he sings.”
Still, Grant acknowledged that Barrymore can outsing him.
“When he was tuned, he sounded a lot better than me because he’s got heart and voice and rock ‘n’ roll,” he said.
On Thursday, Barrymore took to Instagram, hairbrush in hand, to test Grant’s analysis in a video titled “My Response to Hugh Grant.” In the post, she sings “Way Back to Love,” the song she sang with Grant in the film, before looking into the camera and saying with a smile: “Oh Hugh… bert. Hubert. It’s for you.”
In “Music and Lyrics,” Barrymore plays a woman who helps a musician played by Grant compose a hit song.
Barrymore is no stranger to making waves on social media and turning heads with her viral TikTok of eating a slice of pizza in deconstructed style.
