Lady Gaga’s makeup artist is giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at what went into the pop star’s dramatic transformation at the 2023 Oscars.
Sarah Tanno posted a photo on her Instagram Stories on Monday of dirty makeup wipes, dirty cotton buds and a handful of circular pads.
The makeup on the napkins seemed to perfectly match the colors used for the “Poker Face” singer’s dramatic red carpet look.
“The Aftermath…” Tanno captioned the photo.
Gaga, 36, shocked viewers on Sunday when she took the stage bare-faced for her performance of “Hold My Hand” at the awards show – despite walking the red carpet in full glam just hours earlier.
Whatever remover Tanno used left no trace of the “Paparazzi” singer’s powerful smokey eye, bold red lips and bright blush — leaving viewers begging for answers.
“I just really want to know what makeup remover Lady Gaga uses,” one person tweetedwhile another joked“Sorry, how was Lady Gaga able to get all this makeup off so quickly without smudging? If I wash my face 5 times I still go to bed looking like the joker.”
Tanno has yet to reveal which magic makeup remover she used on Gaga, but she told Harper’s Bazaar a few years ago that she’s a fan of Lancôme Bi-Facial Double-Action Eye Makeup Remover.

“I like to kick the old fashioned, I like Lancôme Bi-Facil,” she said at the time, also noting the cleansing powers of a good argan oil.
“Gaga taught me that,” Tanno added. “If you have heavy eye makeup or waterproof products, just straight up argan oil is really great for just removing everything and melting it off. I learn so much from her!”
Not only did Gaga ditch her glam for the “deeply personal” performance, but she also swapped her Versace dress for a T-shirt, black ripped jeans and sneakers.

Glenn Weiss, Oscar showrunner and producer, later explained the “Bad Romance” singer’s decision to step down, saying she wanted the moment to feel “raw.”
“She was really appropriate about the fact that this is a meaningful song for her, and she really wanted to strip it down and do it not as an ‘Oscar performance,’ but as her,” he told the Hollywood Reporter. “And that’s exactly what we were trying to capture.”
